Developer Relations Advocate
Please note: This position is open only to candidates who already have a valid EU work permit. We are currently not able to sponsor visas for this role.
We’re looking for a Developer Relations Advocate to help grow the reach and impact of DuckDB, DuckLake, and DuckDB Labs across the developer and data ecosystem. This role combines technical communication, content, advocacy, and community. This is ideal for someone with a strong technical foundation who wants to help developers understand, adopt, and get excited about our products.
Who are DuckDB Labs
DuckDB Labs builds and stewards the infrastructure that makes it simple to work with data seriously. We sit at the center of the DuckDB ecosystem, developing and supporting the technologies that bring analytics directly to where data lives.
Our core product, DuckDB, is an in-process SQL OLAP database designed to be fast, reliable, and easy to use – often described as the “SQLite for analytics.” It is used globally by developers and data teams who want performance without operational overhead.
Alongside DuckDB, we are developing DuckLake – an open lakehouse format designed to bring scalability, performance, reliability, and long-term scalability to data lakes, without adding unnecessary complexity.
DuckDB Labs is the commercial organization behind this ecosystem: a small, deeply technical, and profitable company focused on building high-quality, production-ready data infrastructure for the long term.
- Infrastructure with real-world impact, used globally across the developer and data ecosystem.
- A high-talent-density team, working closely with experienced engineers, founders, and core contributors.
- An independent, profitable company with a long-term focus and a deliberate approach to growth.
About the role
As Developer Relations Advocate at DuckDB Labs, you operate across the full ecosystem: DuckDB, DuckLake, and the broader DuckDB Labs brand.
You work directly with developers and builders using DuckDB today, helping them adopt, understand, and extend the product in real-world environments. In parallel, you help shape the early community around DuckLake, translating emerging concepts into clear, practical narratives and gathering feedback from real usage.
Beyond the products, you play a key role in building the DuckDB Labs brand. This means communicating clearly about how the ecosystem is structured, what is open versus commercial, and how we approach long-term stewardship. You help ensure that everything we put into the world (content, talks, examples, and conversations) reflects a consistent, credible, and technically grounded story.
Your work spans hands-on developer engagement and broader communication:
-
Supporting developers using DuckDB in production, through examples, content, and direct interaction.
-
Helping establish the DuckLake ecosystem by engaging early users and shaping how the product is understood.
-
Creating clear, practical content that reflects how developers actually work – focused on simplicity, performance, and real use cases.
-
Representing DuckDB Labs externally, contributing to a consistent narrative around trust, independence, and long-term infrastructure.
-
Feeding insights from the community back into engineering, ensuring we stay aligned with real-world needs.
This is a role for someone who is comfortable moving between code, community, marketing and communication – grounded in real usage, and focused on making complex systems feel simple and dependable.
What we’re looking for
- Experience in a relevant area such as Developer Relations, technical content, developer marketing, community, software engineering, data, or technical communications.
- A strong technical foundation that allows you to communicate credibly about topics such as C++, Python, SQL, analytics, databases, or data engineering.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to make complex technical topics accessible without oversimplifying them.
- Experience creating developer-facing content (e.g., tutorials, demos, talks, or articles) and understanding how to distribute it effectively to reach the right audience.
- Ability to engage with developer communities, gather feedback, and translate that into insights for product and engineering teams.
- A hands-on, proactive way of working, with comfort operating in a small, fast-moving team.
- A strong sense of what “good” looks like in developer experience and communication, with the ability to independently shape content and messaging.
- Comfort operating across multiple surfaces (documentation, GitHub, Discord, social media platforms, events) and maintaining a consistent voice.
It would be great if you had
- Experience in data tooling, analytics, developer tools, infrastructure, or open source.
- A background in software engineering, data engineering, or data science.
- Experience with talks, webinars, video, social content, or other public-facing formats.
- Experience writing customer stories, technical case studies, tutorials, or product-focused content.
- Understanding of (content) marketing fundamentals (e.g., audience segmentation, distribution channels, and performance tracking), with the ability to translate technical topics into content that reaches and engages the right developer audiences.
What you’ll love about this opportunity
- Global adoption at unusual scale: DuckDB is widely used across the developer and data ecosystem, from individual builders to large organizations, often becoming a default choice in modern data workflows.
- A category shift in motion: you’ll be part of a broader move toward embedded, local-first analytics, which ensures high performance and enables enhanced privacy - where DuckDB is already seen as a reference point for how this should work.
- Proven product–company fit: a rare combination of strong open-source adoption, real production usage, and a profitable, focused company behind it.
- Built to last: DuckDB Labs operates with a long-term mindset – prioritizing correctness, stability, and trust over short-term growth or noise.
- Real learning and support: you’ll work closely with exceptional technical teammates and an experienced DevRel leader.
- Technical credibility: you’ll represent a product that already has deep respect in the developer and data world.
- Visible impact: in a small team, your work will shape how DuckDB Labs, DuckDB, and DuckLake are understood externally.
- Hybrid setup: Amsterdam Science Park office, minimum 3 days per week, plus 25 vacation days.
